The sunken secret of Egypt

The ‘Osiris’ exhibition at Museum Rietberg displays the impressive treasures discovered by French underwater archaeologist Franck Goddio in the sea off the coast of Egypt. The finds include the colossal statues up to 5.4 metres tall, which due to their size are displayed in the courtyard at the entrance to the museum. The three violet-illuminated pavilions protect the statues. The design was a challenge: as light as possible, heated and dimensionally stable. There was not much time to encase the statues in the prefabricated shells consisting of a steel frame with polycarbonate panels on three sides and security glass at the front. The colour provides a point of contrast to the emerald-coloured glass façade of the museum.

Ready to live in

The exhibition concept envisions an apartment scenario. The light-coloured walls, partially covered in a semi-translucent fabric, form three open rooms for visitors to stroll through at their leisure. They pass a kitchen, a home office and a women’s dressing room: everywhere the focal point is an advertising pillar – the main exhibition object – in different colours and finishes. In the kitchen, the back wall takes on the colour of the pillar while also drawing attention to itself. The new products débuted at the fair included a cabinet and a sideboard displayed on small pedestals.

A stroll through the greenhouse

A special atmosphere emerges on entering the exhibition hall: there are palms between the shelves and in the distance verdant plants grow up the wall to the ceiling of the saw-tooth roof in the production hall. Visitors feel as if they have entered a greenhouse, strolling down the promenade with the Pendularis Floating Indoor Garden at eye-level along the way to the heart of the exhibition. Little details can be found everywhere and point to the painstaking efforts of the interior designer, from the cultivation of the succulents and the planting of the Pendularis to the rich array of indoor plant ideas. And a small oasis with a bench invites visitors to linger and take it all in.

Playful pipe system with ingenious twists

The exhibition site is a warehouse and the main attraction is a garden system. The starting point for the poetic installation is a ‘Floating Garden System’ by Creaplant known as Pendularis. Like signposts, a system of plastic pipes in telemagenta guides visitors through the exhibition. It playfully parts a curtain of plants, rises up like columns and adds whimsical accents. Along the way, the company’s expertise in this field is clear, from the concept and cultivation of the plants in the hothouse to the installation and irrigation of the finished product.

Angular shapes against a vibrant red backdrop

A red, angular wall forms the backdrop from which to present the furniture. In front of it is a landscape of staggered platforms in a range of different grey tones that cast the furniture in the best possible light. Intriguingly, the furniture can be viewed from unusual vantage points, such as from below or close up. Nevertheless, the different perspectives yield a harmonious whole, creating a cohesive overall impression while still highlighting the individual designs of the WOGG CARO product family. The angular, cubist shapes of the elements interlink naturally with the cubist thrust of the platform landscape.

Clear the stage for furniture

The presentation space for the furniture in the WOGG LIVA product line by Wogg is a wall display with multiple tiers staggered in depth and height. The structure extends across the entire length of the stand and is the main attraction of the exhibition. The different depth levels are clearly recognisable by their distinct shades of blue. The platforms are also at different levels, with their surfaces – like the floor – finished in a light grey hue. The result is a stage on which all the stars share the spotlight at once. In addition, the multi-tiered design offers a perfect view of the entire furniture line. The front of the exhibition is open on three sides, inviting visitors to have a look as they stroll.

A room of floating plants

These floating orbs of earth in which the plants grow are fascinating to behold. String Garden is what Creaplant calls this product. The creation derives from a modern technique of Japanese plant design known as kokedama, or ‘moss ball’. Creaplant has taken the technique further and provided it with an irrigation system. Here, the hanging plants are displayed in a dark space bordered on two sides by vertical gardens. Round benches invite visitors to linger and breathe in the lush green ambience. Visitors may hear animal sounds from time to time as well. This, too, is part of the exhibition concept.

Three-dimensional indoor garden

This three-dimensional tropical garden is a festival for the senses. The main attraction in this exhibition is the Wonderwall, a vertical bed of plants. The colour green dominates in all its nuances. The vertical element unites with a horizontal landscape of ferns. Above a winding path through the jungle, hanging plants extend downward from the ceiling. The installation is not merely a sight to behold – the vivid green hues permeate all the senses. Visitors can touch, hear and feel the lushness all around them. A video installation by Susi Jirkuff brings the landscape to life: ‘Hold Us Down’ tells a tale in which the jungle’s inhabitants – the animals – cast a further spell on visitors.

In the best possible light

Four large round platforms serve as the exhibition space for the furniture, while four cylinders hanging overhead provide a visual accompaniment. They cast the furniture in the best possible light. The surface of the platforms is completely white. The cylinders, by contrast, consist of a dark, solid shell with a gently falling, red slip peeking out from underneath. The cylinders also conceal the lighting. The platforms, furniture and cylinders form a unit, floating in the exhibition space like islands ripe for circumnavigation.

A veil of cherry blossoms

The annual furniture fair comes into to life in Milan, just in time for spring. New furnishings draw rapt crowds as exhibitors show off their latest creations. This appeal and seduction is also the idea behind the cherry blossom curtain. A transparent, plastic veil of blossom divides the exhibition space into different zones and creates spaces in which to exhibit the furniture, resulting in seductive glimpses and stunning views. The stand itself is a dazzling bright white. Those who venture beyond the blossom are treated to a space bedecked in pink, with the inner side of the upper trim panel further accentuating the hue of the blossom.
